I am still interested by Valkyrie, but after watching those clips of Valkyrie I'm thinking that Tom Cruise was maybe not the best choice for interpreting Colonel Von Stauffenberg. I mean Tom Cruise sounds and looks so American in those Valkyrie preview clips, it's a bit hard to imagine him as a German colonel..

There is no denying that Tom Cruise is a good actor. Despite the controversy around his dedication to the scientologist sect I believe the cast of Tom Cruise in the role of Colonel Von Stauffenberg was the right choice.

The trailer of Bryan Singer’s Valkyrie has been released.
Here it is:

"I swear by God this Sacred Oath:
That I shall render unconditional obedience
to Adolf Hitler, the Führer of the German Reich."
Well some promises are really not worth keeping...

Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) realized the nonsense of this oath and finally decided to join the German Resistance.

Update: ~~the movie will be released in February 2008~~
Actually the movie has been rescheduled for December 26, 2008.

A picture of Tom Cruise and of his conspirators has been released:

Starting from left: Kevin McNally, Christian Berkel, Bill Nighy, Tom Cruise, Terence Stamp, David Schofield and Kenneth Brannagh, who will appear in the film Valkyrie

Those actors are interpreting the roles of real German resistants who tried -in a failed attempt- to overthrow the evil Hitler at the end of World War II:

1. Carl Goerdeler (played by Kevin McNally)
2. Albrecht Riter Merz von Quirnheim (Christian Berkel, a German actor)
3. General Friedrich Olbricht (Bill Nighy)
4. Count Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise)
5. General Ludwig Beck (Terence Stamp)
6. Field Marshal Erwin von Witzleben (David Schofield)
7. Henning von Tresckow (Kenneth Brannagh)

Valkyrie was the code name for a group of high rank German military who tried to overthrow the abominable Hitler during the Second World War.

Based on actual events, Valkyrie follows a plot to assassinate Hitler during the height of World War II.
Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg was at the center of this plot.
Cruise was attracted to the role based on the resemblance of his profile to the colonel.

Because of Tom Cruise's involvement in Scientology the movie fuels some controversy.
But let's hope that a spreading global awareness of Stauffenberg's attempted plot will result from this movie.

The movie is currently in production and should be released in February 2009 (the release date of Valkyrie has been pushed back twice already!).
